Borrowing Information
Books, scores, and periodicals are held in open stacks in the Music Library. Audio and video recordings are held in closed stacks behind the circulation desk; provide the desk attendant with the call number and a recording will be retrieved for you. A maximum of 3 recordings at a time may be borrowed. Headphones are available for use at the listening and viewing stations in the Music Library.

Patrons not affiliated with the University are welcome to browse, consult books, scores, and periodicals on-site, and listen to audio recordings or view video recordings. A photo ID is required for listening and viewing. To check items out of the Music Library requires a current UMN student or staff ID card. Alumni and non-affiliated patrons must have a current Friends of the Libraries card to be able to check anything out of the library. Most recordings may be checked out only by faculty and teaching assistants.

Loan Periods
Loan periods vary depending on a patron's status and the type of item needed. Not all Music Library materials circulate. Please check at the Circulation Desk for details.

Book Returns
Please return reserve items, sound recordings, and periodicals directly to the Music Library during library hours. Other books and scores may be returned to any Libraries' circulation unit on campus. The Music Library's after-hours bookdrop is located in the tunnel just outside the Music Library's door on the basement level of Ferguson Hall.

Book Recalls
After an item has been charged out to a patron for 2 weeks, another patron may request that the item be returned for his/her use. The recall due date supersedes the original due date. Items may be recalled for course reserve at any time.
